Well spring his here, the sun has come out and the daffodils are beginning to bloom. So the time has come to dust down your sails, and lift out your sailing gear. There have however been some members sailing for the winter series. Our cruisers members will be getting their last final checks done on their boats so that they can get them back into the water for Easter. This will then be the beginning of their many trips away and let’s hope they are all with the weather best suited for cruisers.
For the jetty, our dinghies are going from strength to strength and spaces are limited. Our sailing programme for the coming year is looking good, with lots of new events the Topaz Open 10th July, the link with the Southend University and having joint venture days with them. The Dart Nationals 9th and 10th October I hope will attract lots of boats from other clubs to join the wonderful large class we now have on our jetty. For those of us who are not in the competitive mood there are plenty of family days and cadet days to come and enjoy the pleasure of sailing. Also weather permitting we will be holding evening barbeques to continue on after the afternoon sailings to make relaxing and social gatherings which we can all enjoy. All we are in need of is beautiful sunshine, and the right amount of wind.
Our Annual Dinner and Dance this year was held on the 13th March at the Park View Suite, Chalkwell Park and was a fantastic night. It was a complete success. We had a sell out for 90 to sit down. The tickets sold so quickly that for the first time we had to operate a waiting list which just shows how popular it was. The food was wonderful, Al Vosper who entertained us with live music from 7pm till the end provided the ambiance and dancing that we at the Thames so enjoy. The dance floor was packed and everyone had a memorable night. We also can say for the first time in taking the dinner dance to an outside function we have made a clear profit from the night which is good news for the club.
We also have a new venture in the clubhouse once a month, order your own curry from the Mamamtaz Mahal Tandoori. The first one was a complete success and for only £6 per person who wants to cook on a Friday night. The menus are in the clubhouse so pick one up and check the entertainments programme for the next date for order your own night. Don’t miss out and join in the fun.
The clubhouse and the jetties both have wonderful atmospheres within them and this is created when supported by its members.
I look forward to seeing you all at the forthcoming entertainments and sailing events and please keep watch as extra events will be added for the Friday nights. We will post them up in the clubhouse, website and via emails.
Yours in sailing.
