Hello.
As I’m sure you are aware the club bar is run on a mainly voluntary basis and whilst the bar did well over the past year, a trend is developing in as much that Friday nights are becoming less popular amongst the membership over the winter months in particular, and functions at the club are not getting the support to justify the effort that goes into organising them. This is obviously of concern, as it is vital to the clubs finances that the bar continues to do well as it is a major contributor to the bottom line and keeping the cost of membership and jetty dues as low as possible.
In respect of Friday nights it is unfair to ask a member to give up a Friday night to do the bar and have very few people turn up. It was therefore agreed at the last committee meeting that going forward, for the first quarter of 2016 only, we would open the bar for 2 Fridays a month only, but instead of 1 person doing the bar we will have 2, as a pairing usually seems to attract a better turnout and it also gives those 2 people a chance to “rustle up” a few extra members, plus any friends they can entice down to the club. The intention is that we will open the bar on the 2nd and last Friday of each month but these may vary depending on any functions etc. etc., but the date will be confirmed on the week ahead email. This will also be a good opportunity for anyone to join the bar rota as they can be trained by whoever they would be pairing with, so please contact me if you wish to join the rota.
We hope to have a list of entertainments out soon and please do your best to support them and if you have any ideas for an event or would like to organise one for a charity etc. please let a member of the committee know. Your club needs you!
