Jetty Work Parties – This Weekend

Hello all,

In preparation for the upcoming cadet regatta and the rest of the sailing season, we are organising work parties to clean apply anti-fouling to the slipway.  The work parties are planned for this weekend – 18th& 19th August – I expect each to last around 3 hours.

Saturday is timed to start as the tide (HW 05:57) leaves the slipway.  Sunday will begin at 13:30 in an effort to allow the maximum possible drying time, both for the slipway pre-treatment and for the anti-fouling itself, between the two tides at 06:49 and 19:08.  Sunday’s work party will have to be postponed if the weather is against us.

Please note that none of this is clean work, so please don’t arrive in your Sunday best.

If you and / or your children sail, then this is for your benefit, so please attend if you are able.

The full details…

  • Saturday 09:00: Jetty Working Party – Day 1

Saturday will be slipway cleaning day.  We will be jet-washing the slipway in preparation for applying the anti-fouling on Sunday.
If you can help with any of the following, please reply to this email to let me know:

  • Jet washers – we will need 2 and a backup.
  • Hoses – we will need 2 lengths of garden hose long enough to reach the bottom of the slipway.  Again it would also be good to have a backup.

  • Sunday 13:30: Jetty Working Party – Day 2

Sunday will be anti-fouling day.  We will be applying Sigma Ecofleet 530 anti-fouling to the slipway by hand-brush.  Sigma Ecofleet 530 is rated to control shell and weed fouling for up to 60 months.  Whilst it complies with the latest International Maritime Organisation Antifouling Systems Convention, it’s not exactly aloe vera, so the following are essential in order to take part:

  • Old clothes
  • Protective eyewear (goggles / old sunglasses)
  • Protective gloves (marigolds / gardening gloves)
  • Protective footwear (wellies / impervious boots)

Happy sailing,
