TEYC Support Boat Training 2017

To all members interested, in helping with the club Support / patrol ribs and learning the basics for helming /crewing and being part of 2017 club rota, we are going to be running the following introduction sessions.

These training day’s will also give you a great head start into taking one of the RYA powerboat courses that Dave Caten will be running within this year.

Sunday 29th January 09.00hrs – Introduction to the club ribs & equipment /Crew for Winter Series Rib / Water based training Rib 2
Sunday 26th February 09.00hrs – Crew for Winter Series Rib / Water based training Rib 2
Sunday 26th March 09.00hrs – Crew for Winter Series Rib / Water based training Rib 2
Sunday 09th April 09.00hrs – Crew for Spring points Series Rib / Water based training Rib 2

The water based training will be provided by our club, Southend RNLI crew members and experienced club helms, so we should all be in very safe and knowledgeable hands! Below is just a sample of what we wish to cover.

  • How to tow a dinghy correctly, various options for towing
  • How to right a capsized dinghy
  • Holding the rib alongside a jetty / moored vessel
  • Correct way of coming alongside the jetty with a tow & without
  • Understanding the sea conditions and weathers
  • Rope work and the correct knots to be used
  • How to launch and recover the Ribs
  • Preparation ashore / Care required ashore
